The split box is a way to request a portion of a case.
For example: You would like to get some canned tomatoes. They come in a case of 12 cans but you would prefer to only get 4 cans. You can select this item and hit the split box. This will send this item to the website so everyone else can see that you would like tomatoes. Then others can sign up to take the remaining 8 cans. If others don't sign up, then the case will automatically be dropped and nobody will get tomatoes.
The "more" box that appears after the split box is to indicate if you would be willing to take more than the 4 qty you asked for.
For example. You only need 4 cans of tomatoes but you would be willing to take 10 cans if that would mean we got the case. You would put 4 in the qty box and 6 in the more box. It's kind of a way to say, "I'd take more than I want for the purpose of getting some rather than none."
This same protocol applies for bulk items such as rice and beans, usually coming in 25+ pound bags.
You can also look at items that others are requesting to split. It's usually best to do this before you key in your splits so that we don't get 5 different people requesting split cases of similar products. Then none of them get filled.
To look at splits on the website to go the "view baskets" screen. Here you will see a drop down menu that is normally on "my order". Select "splitting cases" and you will be able to see all split case requests. To join into one of these splits, click the link that is the product number and you can then add how many you would like. Make sure you press the split box in this case or you will get 4 full cases of tomatoes. Splitting cases is a little hard to explain, but not complicated in concept.
